Bad! Bad! Bad! July 29, 2010 TCT (Maryland) I've enjoyed reading the first four books and I watch the TV series. I almost stopped reading the book only after a few pages. The writing is awful. When reading paranormal you expect the outrageous but everything in this book seems ridiculous and stupid. The writing couldn't pull together to ridiculous and stupid to make it plausible. It makes me believe the writer who wrote the series before is not the same writer now. The story line is all over the place and reads like someone high on drugs wrote it in a drug haze. I wonder what editor in their right mind would release this book with out a firm editing hand. I continue to read only because I want to know how it will end but it is taking a long time as I read other books in between. Yes, Elena can do no wrong and it is absurd. Thankfully as others mentioned Damon is the only character and maybe Matt who make sense. Sadly there are so many other and new characters in this book that don't make sense it's scary.
Huh? July 26, 2010 Stacey Williams What happened with this book? I read the entire thing because I like the series but man, it was painful! I almost stopped half way through. Hope the next book is better!
VAMPIRE DIARIES BOOK 6 SHADOW SOULS July 18, 2010 Arcadia Mccaffery (florida) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
SHADOW SOULS WAS SO GOOD!!!!CAN YOU SAY I LOVE DAMON HE IS SO VUNERABLE IN THIS BOOK I LOVED IT!!!!
Getting Better... July 11, 2010 Patricia Leppla (Tucosn, AZ) The adventures continue in L.J. Smith's 2nd installment of her Return series in Shadow Souls. Stefan has been imprisoned in a demonic dimension, sent there by Damon. Now Elena is left alone with Damon. Elena and Damon leave everyone back at home in search for a way to free Stefan. Meridith and Bonnie are left to fight the demons and dark powers that are taking over Fell's Church, but soon meet up with Elena and Damon. Together they enter the Dark Dimension, not knowing what is in store for them.
If things couldn't get more complicated for Elena, her and Damon start to grow closer. Elena finds herself understanding Damon more and more, and discovering new feelings she didn't know she had. Despite this Elena, Damon, Meridith, and Bonnie must continue their journey and find a way to quickly rise in the society ranks of the Dark Dimension. During their search for the "keys" that will set Stefan free they meet dark and dangerous characters and a world that they could never have imagined excited.
Back in Fell's Church, Matt trying to hid from the law and has teamed up with Mrs. Flowers, the owner of the boarding house, to find a way to stop the Kitsunes that have inhabited their town.
I gave this book 4 stars mainly because it was better than the first installment of The Return series. However, L.J. Smith's writing still was a bit confusing and hard to follow at times. Despite this, I overall enjoyed this book that I look forward to the next installment Midnight that is set to come out in March 2011.
Vampire Diaries Series July 7, 2010 TheNita (O'Fallon, IL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love the Vampire Diaries books!! I got a little frustrated when Elena was killed, returned as a vampire, then killed again, then contacted via seances. At this point I was even pissed off at the confusion! Does Elena live, does she die, is she a vampire, is she not, is she a ghost or is she a human, does she love Stefan, does she love Damon??? But, I must say, I hung in there and the story turned out to be a fabulous emotional epic journey that made perfect sense in the end!! Even a tear-jerk-er; I'm a sucker for vampire/fantasy love stories. However, in this series, we not only get to experience a romantic love, but we also find out about true friendship and loyalty; the kind of love that is hard to find... Unconditional love between friends that has no boundaries in the absence of immorality and criminal activity. I loved both "The Awakening & The Struggle" and "The Fury & Dark Reunion". L.J. Smith provides a great outlet to find fantasy romance and true friendship. I'm hooked!! The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion
