Product Description It's June in Lake Eden, Minnesota, and for Hannah Swensen, that means bridal showers galore, plus a massive fundraising event in need of confections - not to mention a killer who never learned that charity begins at home...Early summer brings plenty of work for Hannah, even before Mayor Bascomb's wife drops by The Cookie Jar to place an order...for eleven-hundred cookies! Stephanie Bascomb is organizing an elaborate three-day event to support local charities, and though it's a worthy cause, Hannah almost flips when her business partner, Lisa, suggests setting up an apple turnover stand. Hannah's never made a turnover - but, pushover that she is, she places her faith in Lisa's mother-in-law's recipe and agrees to be a magician's assistant in the fundraiser's talent show...Dozens of pastries and one hideous purple dress later, Hannah has to admit that stepping out of her comfort zone has been fun as well as profitable. The only snag is the show's host, community college professor Bradford Ramsey. Hannah and her younger sister Michelle each had unfortunate romantic relationships with Ramsey, and when the cad comes sniffing around between acts, Hannah tells him off. But when the curtain doesn't go up, she discovers Ramsey backstage - dead as a doornail with a turnover in his hand...Now, to protect her reputation and Michelle's, Hannah must get to the bottom of the professor's bitter end. There are plenty of scorned suspects, including an ex-wife who feels cheated in more ways than one, and a prominent local who may have been using Ramsey to avenge her own randy spouse. But who was unstable enough to snuff out Professor Love? A killer who's flakier than puff pastry - and far more dangerous...

Fluke does it again July 25, 2010 A. Hudson 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As usual, Joanne Fluke has written another spellbinder. She has you so engrossed in what is happening that you do not want to put it down.
Trite with 1970 Church Bazaar Recipes July 15, 2010 Mary B. (HRVA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have not read any other in this series. And I will not be reading anymore. The grammar and spelling are very good. That is what I have nice to say. The prose is trite and as if written by an 'old maid' in another era that thinks sometimes dating more than one man at a time is bold and assertive. The lead character Hannah is annoyingly pretentious and makes me think of the prim and proper school teacher/church lady stereotype that thinks she knows everything and condescendingly gives her nod of approval to good behavior.
Hannah and a partner own a thriving...cookie shop. In a small town. Which in reality would last a few years at most. The book boasts of 'recipes included.' Sorry, cookie shop? Just saying. Yeah, if you are looking for real recipes, forget about it! Check online for recipes for kids, because that is what most of them remind me of, the stuff that summer camps and day care do as snack time projects with kids. The other half of the recipes remind me of old school circa 1970's community and church cookbooks, or those cookbooks that feature 'back of the box' or 'back of the can' recipes. And not the good home cooking type of recipes either, more along the novelty kind. I kept expecting a spam recipe. Some of it grossed me out.
Character Development Needed July 14, 2010 Jennifer L. Ferris (Oregon, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading this book I did something I have never done before, I emailed the author. This book was such a disappointment. Hannah was so condescending and meddling to just about everyone and the love triangle has just gotten to be too much. I have followed this series since the beginning, buying each book in hardback so I can read them over often and reference my favorite recipes. Like so many other reviewers I have come to feel like Hannah is an old friend, which being said, I wanted to let the author know how sad I was when I realized if the next book is this bad, I can no longer justify the expense of buying these books. In response I simply received a canned message thanking me for reading, which told me she just didn't care.
I've read the other reviews and I agree with many of the other negative aspects. However, am I the only one confused by the fact that it is never mentioned or discussed amongst Norman, Hannah and/or Mike WHY intimacy isn't an aspect? I'm just saying, I too am a single woman near my 30's and this is not the reality of the dating world after a relationship amongst adults has been ongoing for several YEARS. At this point I would say call the relationships friendships and Hannah can either be a spinster or move forward with a man who actually inspires her to be in a committed adult relatioship.
I am looking forward to Flukes cookbook, but perhaps she should just give up on the novels if she is that tired of writing them and no longer cares what her fans want to read or how they feel.
Love This Series July 12, 2010 Jessica Henry (Charleston, TN) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
All the Hannah Swenson Mysteries are wonderful they are light hearted make you smile mysteries "cozy mysteries" (not scary, gory, or sad) but they are actually really good "keep you guessing" mysteries. I have read the first four and have now bought all Hannah books and anthologies for my Kindle, I just cannot put them down. Plus if you are someone who likes to bake you will love all the recipes that come with each story. I just book mark each recipe as I come to it on my Kindle and then they are super easy to find when I need them. I would recommend the entire series. Also the author, Joanne Fluke, is super nice. I e-mailed her once, when one of the cookie recipes I made did not turn out right, just to see what I might have done wrong and she actually e-mailed me back a couple hours later. Just a super nice person and a wonderful mystery writer.
One Could Lose Their Cookies! July 4, 2010 Patricia Bird (West Palm Beach, FL USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used to love this series, but now there are just too many recipes and too little mystery. Not only do the recipes take up too many pages, but too much of the dialogue is characters talking about how good the cookies are.
Having competing loves is a good thing in the series, but Mike should have been tossed to the curb several novels ago. Perhaps a new eligible man could move to town. If Hannah loses Norman, it's what she deserves.
That's have more mystery and less gooey sweets!
