A life saver! July 30, 2010 J. Sotomayor (Georgia) My almost three year old was recently diagnosed with several food allergies. I was having a very hard time finding foods for him, especially breakfast and snacks, until I found this wonderful book. My son and the rest of the family have loved everything they have tried so far. I have already made the Beer Bread, Snickerdoodles, Cinnamon Rolls, Pumpkin Bread and the Chocolate Chips Cupcakes, all of them wonderful! The ingredients, with the exception of the Superfine Brown Rice Flour, are easy to find. I was just able to find the superfine flour at a Nutricion Depot, because they are one of the few stores that carry the Authentic Foods brand. So far I have only used the regular Red Mills Brown Rice Flour and I can't wait to see if there is a big difference, just like the author says, between the two flours and the texture of the final product. The recipes take time to make, so it is a great book for people who likes to be in the kitchen. I strongly recommend this cookbook.

If you're tired of packaged gluten free breads that are dry, crumbly, and lack flavor, The Allergen-free Baker's Handbook,is one of a new breed of cookbooks that introduces you to a variety of grains. Several of the breads (I haven't tried them all yet)are quite tasty.
Absolute must have for food intollerances or allergens cookbook collection! July 15, 2010 Twylla Dewar 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my favorite cookbook now...at least for baked goods! Every recipe I have tried (I have tried at least a dozen of them so far) has turned out wonderfully and deliciously! My favorites are the vanilla glazed scones, the carrot ginger cupcakes with orange buttercream frosting, chocolate sandwich cookies and the blueberry boy bait! I am not on a restricted diet but two of my kids are as well as my husband. My 4 and 2 year olds cannot tollerate gluten, dairy, soy, peanuts, dyes, preservatives, sesame or yeast so they can have almost all of the foods in this book (only a handful have yeast.) They love everything that's been made so far. They love to sneak scones or cupcakes off the cooling racks and run off with them like they just got away with something they weren't supposed to have! My husband is newly gluten dairy free and complained about the diet with the exception of goods made from this book. I now have to have something made and on hand for him to snack on or eat from this cookbook at all times! Even our friends and family who aren't on restricted diets like what's served out of this cookbook and come back for more or ask for the recipe! I have been cooking gf/cf/sf for 3 years now and this is the best cookbook for baked goods to have on hand! It is an absolute must have!
Awesone gluten free and informative cookbook July 12, 2010 Tour lover 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The recipes and information in this cookbook is excellent. One of the things that I miss the most is sweets and even though I don't want to overdo on these items how nice to have so many wonderful choices. The mix recipes help as I haven't ever used rice flour and many of the other flours necessary for these recipes.
great, great, great! July 5, 2010 M. Soracco (Placerville, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I checked this out from the library because my husband and daughter BOTH have milk protein allergies and are intolerant to gluten (hubby also has corn allergy). And this book had the "staple" flour mix I have been looking for. First thing we made was the cinnamon rolls and they were so good, could not tell they were GF. Hubby also has corn allergy. So, for instance, if the recipe called for confectioners sugar (which usually has corn starch in it) we just make powdered sugar in the blender. Great recipes.
