Awesome edgings that will sneak into your projects March 4, 2010 Literary Equivalent (Arroyo Grande, CA 93420) This series is amazing -- just little motifs to add to your works to give them a designer flair. You will find that even though these patterns are all conceived as edging, you will sneak them into other types of projects: I used one of the broader edging patterns from this book to make my hubby a little business-card holder for when we are out on walks and he doesn't want his heavy wallet dragging him down. This is a big, beautiful coffee-table book type hardback with lots of glorious pictures -- my friend and I have spent happy evenings turning pages together and exclaiming "ooooh, I want to knit that!"
Wonderful Resource for Knitters! February 12, 2009 Bonnie Brody (Fairbanks, Alaska) As an avid knitter, I appreciate this book as a wonderful resource. Currently, I am working on a large shawl that needs a delicate edging all around. I found a lovely lace picot to use. I loved going through the book and looking at all the wonderful trims that I could use on future projects.
My only criticism is that most of the edgings are too wide for what I was looking for. Sometimes I want a very narrow edging and this book does not include these. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
Great Resource April 14, 2008 Tricia N. Welton (Breckenridge, CO 80424) This book offers great alternatives to finish your knitting projects. The stitch directions and well written with photos of each edging included. There are even a couple of project patterns included where the edgings are used. Overall, it is a great book that gives you beautiful finishing alternatives. I think I'll consult this book a lot as I undertake new projects.
Probably good for beginners... January 3, 2008 Kathleen Valentine (Gloucester, Massachusetts) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The astonishing popularity of knitting in recent years has resulted in hundreds and hundreds of knitting books. Everyone wants to get in on the craze but, as someone who has been knitting for close to 50 years, I find most of them lacking. This book has at best five good, inventive, creative, unique edgings and the rest are just mediocre variations on the same things. Fringe? Did we need a section on fringe?
I'm willing to admit I'm a bit jaded and, while I love finding gorgeous new patterns and stitches to try, I find many of these new books to be spectacularly uncreative. It makes me wonder what the point was other than to cash in on the current hot market. I found one really interesting and creative lace edging, a couple of interesting variations on old themes, but the rest would not likely appeal to anyone who has been knitting for more than a few years.
A Reference Book One Dreams About November 21, 2007 AMB (San Carlos, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used to work in a yarn shop. I have saved so many pamphlets and photo-copied a ton of patterns for sweaters, afghans, etc. that I would never make just to have patterns for the details. This book has helped me declutter! I can't believe that she has all of this in one book. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The patterns from "Knitting on the Edge" that I have used have all worked out. I have also easily been able to vary the patterns to work into the piece I was working on. She's made it very simple. And having worked some of the edges in - they really have made the pieces 100% richer looking. (Borrowed it from our library and had to buy my own copy.)
